I thought I'd try to make a lower calorie version of one of my favorite beers.
I have a pale ale recipe that has 40 ibu's and a bitterness ratio of .807 ibu/sg.

If I adjust the grains to lower the calories, should I keep the bitterness ratio the same? I really don't want to lose the hoppy flavor.

I'd suggest keeping the bitterness ratio the same, but cut mostly the bittering hops and keep most of the flavor and aroma hops. I don't think I've ever made a "lite" beer by any stretch of the imagination, but I've made some pale ale's that I'd consider light, and if you keep plenty of flavor and aroma hops they can still have some flavor.
