I've always liked this beer. It's an Imperial Oktoberfest (the only one I know of). I just got a bottle of the new batch and saw something on the label that was confusing. It states that it has an OG of 1.085 and boasts and ABV of 10.01%. Something doesn't add up to me. One of those numbers has to be a misprint right? Maybe I'm missing something. Anyone else find that hard to believe?

Add some simple sugar in there and it could get to 10% fast. I believe it.
1.085 OG and 1.009 FG = 10.1%. Not unheard of.

Wouldn't the simple sugars affect the OG?

I just drank it two nights ago and it doesn't taste like it has an FG that low. Anyway, it doesn't really matter as long as it tastes good.
Yea, I should have said "replace some of the grain with..."

From talking to some of the staff at Avery, it would seem they mash all their beers at 149* and from their website, you'll notice they have lower-than-average FGs. They're also a fan of turbinado, which helps their big beers.
