Hi

I have a Brix/ATC refractometer and need some help answering a couple of basic questions.

1) Should I calibrate the instrument to, "0" each brew day?

2) When reading the instrument, if the proper reading 10.40 Brix, or, 10.04 Brix?

Thanks

1) probably not neccissary, but it wouldn't hurt to check
2) it would be 10.4 Brix which equals about 1.038 gravity (the formula is Gravity = Brix/1.04 X 4)

There's a really helpful thread started by Bobby_M recently on using refracto's and hydro's -- including a super nice video:

shouldn't need to calibrate it that often. i used a refractometer to measure salinity of my old reef aquarium.

it held calibration for months at a time.
