I think we need to make a list of the best beers (or brewerys) IN THE WORLD

im not great at anilising beers like most of you are.. but so far iv found wychwood to be really amazin brewers

an i think id have to put hobgoblin ang goliath at the top of the list..

anyway what are your top beers? we may jus be able to come up with a list of the best beers?

(im drinkin Arran blond atm, scotish beer i think, its pretty bloody good too..)

Top three beers:

Unibroue Trois Pistoles (Canada)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA (U.S.)
Schneider Aventinus (Germany)

i hear Dogfish Head brewery is really good? never heard of it myself

i will try to find these beers..

we have to list THE best beers so i can add it to my shopping list!

new belgium brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado--fat tire and sunshine wheat.

Flying Bison Brewery in Buffalo NY

Sam Adams Boston

iv definatly heard of Sam Adams! why do i asume they make ashy beers?

so far we have

Unibroue Trois Pistoles (Canada)
new belgium brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado--fat tire and sunshine wheat.
Flying Bison Brewery in Buffalo NY
Sam Adams Boston
Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA (U.S.)
Schneider Aventinus (Germany)

Sierra Nevada ~ Pale Ale
Stone ~ Arrogant Bastard
Bridgeport ~ IPA (I could be in the minority on this)
Deschuttes ~ Obsidian Stout

Sierra Nevada ~ Pale Ale - i saw it in shops today.. almost bought one but the bottles was so small! i love the name tho!

Oooh. Good thread. The only problem I see is that many of the best brews are made by tiny breweries with short distribution. I've had (and greatly enjoyed!) Wychwood's Hobgoblin. But my UK brothers are always mentioning brews I can't find. :( For example, I'd love to try some Timothy Taylor Landlord...

Anyway, here's a list of some of my favorites:

Fuller's ESB
London Pride (when it's on cask)
Adnam's Broadside
Craftman's Hefeweizen
Russian River's Pliny the Elder
Humboldt Red Nectar
Unibroue Ephemere
Lindeman's Frambois (Very fruity, though...in case you don't like that)

Some of these are little breweries, some big; some US, some UK, one Canadian.

German Hefe Weizen:

Julius Echter (Nurnberg?):D
Tucher (Nurnberg):D
Schneider
Erdinger (Erding)
Ayinger (Aying)
Paulaner (Munich)

Bonus: Roth (Schweinfurt):D

(I'd rather suck lemons than drink a Sierra Nevada...too hoppy and citrusy for my palate...)

Russian River - Pliney The Elder
Hale's - Aftermath IPA
Store - Arrogant Bastard and Ruination

Hmmm. Yeah, pretty much any huge IPA. =)

(I don't really care for the Dogfish head ones though, for some reason)

-D

How about Stone Ruination IPA?
Best IPA I've had to date.
Until of course I make my own! :D

Definately in my top five list, probably tied with their 10th Anniversary. Stone Smoked Porter is also way up the list.

I'll also throw Smuttynose IPA on the list; cracked one tonight for the first time in a while, this is DAMN good stuff...

Since Dragon's Milk is listed... :)

I like:

Leinie's Big Butt Dopplebock (if anyone EVER sees a BB shirt or hat, let me know, I need something that says Big Butt on it)
St. Peter's Old Style Porter
Young's Double Chocolate Stout

I'm so jealous! We can't get any of those in Texas. All we get is the IPA and the Arrogant Bastard. Both good, but I've heard nothing but raves about the Ruination and the Smoked Porter.

Great Lakes' Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold
Bell's Two Heated Ale (IPA)
Bear Republic's Hop Rod Rye (Rye IPA)
Bell's Oberon (Wheat)
Two Brother's Cane & Ebel (Rye)
New Glarus' Uff-da Bock
New Glarus' Staghorn Oktoberfest
Boulevard Brewing's Irish Red
Three Floyd's Robert The Bruce (Scottish Ale)

Many of us here in the NW proudly wear the title "HOPHEAD"

I've only one beer to add at the moment to the list - Tripel Karmeliet.

Best Belgian I've remembered in a while.

Dude, your gonna be wasted!
Bridgeport IPA is awesome me thinks. Try Victory Hop Devil too, its a little different IPA.

Stone Arrogant Bastard
Stone IPA
North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
North Coast Red Seal Ale
Bridgeport IPA
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA
Anderson Valley Boont Amber
Anchor Steam
Anchor Liberty Ale
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
Moylan's Hopsickle
Mendocino Red Tail Ale

A word of caution: Just because you may be able to find some of these beers, doesn't mean they're in good shape when you get them. I'd try to find them as close to the source as possible to get it fresh and not handled poorly.

My Top Beers are as follows
1) Youngers Tartan's Special
2) Newcastle Brown Ale
3) Guiness Pub Draught
4) Double Diamond
5) McEwans Export

if you're in the south then you should definitely try anything by sweetwater or terrapin. they're both microbreweries located in georgia and are growing rapidly. my personal favorite is the sweetwater hummer (it's a belgian witbier) but they're all equally as good.

Wow, i am looking at this listing and hopefully wishing. i myslef have not been able to get many of these beers, nor are some of them my favorite style beers. I definitely agree with Stone brews (duh) Arrogant Bastard, Ruination, Double Bastard all are great beers. I really like Mad River brewing Co. beers. Their Steelhead DIPA is great as well as their Jamacian Red Ale, which is a hoppy red.

Dogfish head is just amazing, They are truely unique, though i fancy their 60 minute IPA more than their 90 minute and i;ll tell you why. the 90 minute is way too sweet for an IPA to me, maybe a mix of 60 and 90 would be perfect IMHO. I also enjoyed their Aprihop. very clean and crisp. a bit sweet with a good apricot flavor. Didnt like the midas touch too much, as i find it really sweet, but i appreciated the reach of replicating an egyptian brew from long ago.

Another favorite would be the Pizza Port Sharkbite Red Ale.

Well i know that most of these are only available on the west coast but here is a few to add to the list:

Widmer- drop top, snow plow
Bridgeport- ropewalk (amber ale)
New belgium brewery- 1554 (since fat tire is allready listed)
Westmalle- Dubbel
Pabst Blue Ribbon ( just joking)
