It’s been a while since I posted here and actually it’s been a while since I did much with brewing. I bottled two batches this weekend but I really intended for those to be my last for a while. I don’t know, it’s just been hard to find the time to brew and in some ways it felt more like work than fun but now I have some motivation and the fun is back. A friend of my father-in-law’s who used to brew but has since gotten out of it just gave me:

15G keggle
4 5G cornies
5G carboy
3 x 24 count case of 12 oz. bottles

So, in the span of one day I went from resigning myself to PMs because I didn’t have the money to get a big pot to making a short of list of the necessities I need to try all grain. I have a lot of questions so I’m going to number things to make life easier.

1. I have a 5G cooler MLT. From the calculations I’ve done I think I can do low-ABV AG batches using 12-13lb. of grain, right? I don’t think I can exceed that amount of grain and still have enough water mixed in to make it work.

2. I need to get a chiller and I’m debating between these two:

The only difference, one has vinyl tubing, the other has connections for garden hose. Which is better?

3. I need to get a burner and this looks like a good deal, is it?:

4. Aside from some miscellaneous plumbing parts I may need for the keggle and some other sundry items like a longer spoon I think I have everything else to give this a try. Are there any big items that I’m missing?

That burner looks like a real good deal... think I'm gonna order me one!

The chiller with the hose hook ups is what I use and it works fine.

What a gift!! That's some nice stuff you got :)

I would go with the B3-10 or B3-20 as the 1/2 in tube is way more efficient in a keggle or 15 gallon pot and is high enough to go over the top of the pot. You need a quick chill!

for the mlt, i wouldn't put more than about 10# into a 5-gal mlt. maybe up to 12, but no more. i have a 5 and a 10 gal round picnic cooler and i can only get about 12# tops into my 5 gal.
