First off, this is my first post here so forgive any noob ignorance on my behalf. I wish to make a try at the "Cherries in the Snow" recipe in "The Joy of Homebrewing". I do however wish to alter it to a wheat beer style. I was thinking of these substitutions ( the cherries I had no choice, only sweet were available).

10 lbs Sweet Cherries (from bags of frozen) instead of sour cherries
2oz of Tettnager hop pellets for boil
Half oz of the same pellets for finishing
6lbs of wheat malt extract
A vial of hefeweizen ale yeast
And of course the corn sugar for priming.

Am I headed for disaster?

Nope. Sounds like you have a nice, well-thought out recipe here. Should be delicious. The only oddness you might anticipate is having a very present cherry flavor with a very prominent banana/clove wheat beer character, but to me that sounds delicious and should just make for a complex, wonderful beer. I would put all insecurities aside and give this one the ol' college try.
