I've got a golding and a centennial growing and I've just noticed the hop buds coming out over the last couple weeks. They are still pretty small and not ready to be picked yet, but I want to try my hand at a "fresh hop" ale since this will be one of the only times I have fresh hops available to me. One of my fermenters is also about to be freed up and I am ready to brew again, but I want to make sure I won't need it in a week or so for my fresh hop ale.

Once the buds start showing up, how long does it typically take before they are ready to harvest and brew?

You'll probably be able to brew something else ferment it completely out and still have time to wait on the hops.
