Recipe question.

The batch that is in my primary is a recipe that I kinda created but followed basic IPA formulation but modified with Chocolate malt.

7 lbs light dme
1 lb crystal malt hot steeped
2 oz chocolate malt cold steeped, added juice to the boil with the first cascade addition. (15 min)
.5 oz each magnum and pearl hops (60 min)
.5 oz each magnum and pearl hops (30 min)
1 oz cascade (15 min)
1 oz cascade (flame out)
White labs 001 yeast

Looking for an IPA with a touch of a coffee/nutty/chocolate flavor.

Would this still qualify as an IPA??

Thanks,
John

It looks like a "black IPA". Not really a recognized style, but lots of us make it. You don't really have anything in there to give you the nutty/chocolate flavor you wanted, but it'll be a darker colored IPA.

What flavor addition should I expect from the Chocolate malt? From what I have read it should impart some nutty/chocolate flavor. I used only 2 oz to keep it from adding too much flavor.

I suspect your "cold" steep will give you more color than flavor.
