Tonight, I drank a bottle of my homebrew APA (excellent) and then the next beer i drank was a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Now, i'm not saying MY APA is better than Sierra Nevada (it is:rockin: ) but the Sierra Nevada tasted pretty bland after drinking my beer. The question is why? I am guessing that my APA is more bitter and thus dulls my mouth to less bitter beers making the Sierra taste not nearly as good as it should. Anyone have a theory of the situation? Does drinking a high IBU brew prior to a lesser IBU ruin the taste of the lower IBU brew?
Second beer just not as good?!?

Right, any intense flavor tends to numb (and eventually kill) taste receptors. On the other hand, contrary to what we all learned in grade school, taste buds are mixed over the tongue's surface, not concentrated in separate areas.
