Hey folks,

I have an IPA (OG 1.070 and 60 IBUs) that I want to enter in my local fair. The classes are Light ale, Pale ale, Porter, Stout, Specialty beer. Since ther is not an IPA class should I enter it as a Pale even though my OG and IBU's are way too high or am I out of luck? What are Specialty beers..fruit beers or things like ginger beer? I tried calling the fair people but they didn’t have a clue about beer and said they didn’t have the contact info for the people who would be judging that division. Any advice would be helpful.

IPA = India Pale Ale, unless it is extremely light, that is the only category it would fit in.

I'd enter it as a pale. It isn't any of those other categories. It'll be high on the pale side, but sometimes that works in a competition. The worst they can say is, "hey, it is too hoppy."
