Sparkletts/Culligan Jug as Carboy?

Now, don't everybody scream at once, but I was wondering if a 5 gallon water cooler jug, (Culligan, Sparkletts, etc.) could be used as a makeshift carboy? It would seem to me that it would be very much like using a better bottle.
As long as it could be fitted with a stopper or a carboy cap.


Do I deserve to be flogged for asking this?

I'm just eager to brew, and as of right now I only have one carboy. I definitely need to get several more, but would it work just for now?
