I like hefeweizens, I like American wheats OK, too, and I'm not adverse to fruit beers, but I seem to be a dissenter on the notion that the two go together.
I think I find the fruit flavor fighting with the naturally fruity phenols in a hefeweizen. And overwhelming the relative lack of distinctive flavors in an American wheat.
All the fruit beers I've ever tasted that I like were in a base beer with a richer, maltier profile, like an amber ale or brown ale. I think I'm going to experiment with a raspberry brown ale this summer.
