Hiya!

Got a question, are IPA's suppose to be bitter?
I made an Ipa about 2 months ago. 2/11/06
Was a Kit:
Grains:
.5lb American 6 Row
.25lb Wheat Malt
.25lb American Victory
.25lb Crystal 10l
2 oz Barley
.25ln Cara-Pils
6.6 lb Malt Extract
1lb Light DME
HOPS
1oz Centennial
1oz Chinook
1oz Cascade

Went by the instruction I got with the Kit. Let it sit Fermenter for 2 weeks, Secondary for 2 weeks then kegged (Pressurized at 35psi for 2 days, lowerd to 20psi for 3 days (Carbonation is great).
Is rather Bitter though..Still VERY drinkable (and NO you can't try any! :)

Any Ideas why it would be bitter (very little aftertaste though).

Thanks!

Clayton

IPA is supposed to be a bitter ale, yeah. It was traditionally brewed to ship out to British troops in India, and so deliberately more hops and alcohol were used so that the beer would survive the boat journey (both are a preservative).

It's my favourite kind of ale which I brew most often, you'll soon enjoy the bitterness if you don't already :mug:
