I saved some extra wort from a Stone XI Anniversary clone I brewed this weekend that I'll dilute to approx. 1.040 and use for starters. Will I be able to use this with every color of beer I want to brew, or does "dark" starter wort make it only appropriate for "dark" beers? I do decant my starters before pitching.

If you decant, then there is no issue with SRM. You have extra wort that you need to dilute?? I always have to add DME to my extra runnings.

I plan conservatively - my grain bill assumed 75% efficiency and I did somewhat better. I ended up with an extra 3 quarts of 1.067 wort.
