Hi all,

First year hop grower here (planting 3 cascade, 3 williamette this saturday in the Philly suburbs)...just curious what you guys have done with first year plants; i've read "1 shoot/rhizome" but i've also seen recommendations to create a V-shaped trellis to support two shoots from each root...just curious what you experienced hop-growers recommend!

My first year as well. I read 2 or 3 per string, selecting the strongest of the shoots and cutting the rest back.

I heard the same thing. I only have two plants, so I'm going with three shoots from each.

First year the plant is focusing on root growth, some say leave them all. I trimmed them back to 3-4 and had no problems. Hope it helps.
