Normally I just throw the hops right into the fermenter with the rest of the wort. But I'd like to try my hand at harvesting the yeast from an upcoming batch. Will I still be able to harvest the yeast if there are too many hop particles that weren't strained from the wort?

Cool...So here's another question. Could I pitch a fresh batch of wort right onto this cake? Or do you only want to pitch if there are minimal hop residues in the yeast?

Somewhere in this labyrinth of knowledge I saw a post where someone uses 5 gallon paint strainers from the hardware store to filter the hops and other trub out of the wort before pitching the yeast. I am by no means a seasoned expert in the art of brewing, but I have used them with the two batches I currently have in primary.
