Hello there. I am new to home brewing and I am excited to get started. I would like to brew up a 1 gallon batch of root beer or sarsaparilla. Any recommendations on a particular brand of extract for either of these two sodas? I have seen Old Fashioned, HopTech, and Gnome.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

many people seem to like gnome though ive never tried it
old fashioned is fairly easy to get at HB stores and i use it often
+ good availability
+ decent price
+ stock instructions usually produce decent RB
+ OF/rainbow brand usually has a display with other extracts and they make other sodas such as sarsaparilla, birch, ginger, etc.
- tough to vary amout in a recipe without getting super strong RB flavor
- the extract is pretty darn sweet (but then again we're making soda)
- the smell is tough to get out of containers etc (all extracts have this prob)
ive never used hoptech but would imagine that regular brewers would get it easily with other supplies
