a little while ago i did a phat tyre from northern brewer. i did a full 5 gallon boil and it seemed to go smoothly. i did try something different, i used a blow off tube in my 5 gal carboy. since the tube was not as tight as i would like i used duck tape to "seal" the gaps. it worked out extremely well, krausen was removed!!! but when i moved into secondary the smell was terrible!! not sure the problem. it was so bad i almost threw the batch away!! could the beer be infected? would there be "something" growing on the top of the beer??

but here is the kicker, now approx 2 wks later the smell is quit nice, sweet almost??? any thoughts?
