I don't think that I saw anything like this out there so I figure that I throw this out on the forum.

What are you going to brew to teach on National Learn to Homebrew Day?

I will be going with BierMuncher's Outer Limits IPA. I haven't tried it yet but all the comments in his recipe post make it sound delicious.

Here's pics from the Spring event. We get together at a large homebrew shop in Metro Detroit. HBT are well represented.

Revvy that looks like it was a blast. Is each tent a separate homebrewer or club???

Mine definitely won't be that crazy but I am hoping for some grilling on the side as well as intermittent watching of NCAA football games while people rotate in and out of the brewing process.

One of our club member's has been gracious enough to host it at his place this year, although it is the day after the "official" day... Too many other obligations this year...

Sweet, having a few guys over on Sat who don't brew themselves but like beer. Didn't realize it was also learn to brew day.

Brewing 10 gallon Count Chocuweissen and 10 gallon Vanilla Ice Porter. We're going to try freeze concentrating about a gallon of it so the name will fit.

Maybe a quick 5 gal extract batch of a mild or bitter too

Had no idea it was a special day, but if I don't do it on Wednesday, I am planning on a St Paul's Porter from NB on Saturday. Probably do some bottling also.

Revy - so the homebrewshop provides y'all with all the water? I thought the economy sucked in MI? But you do have all them lakes......

Filtered water to brew with, a multiple hose hookup for chilling, and probably 10 kegs of beer (to demo their kits) plus the potluck, and more beer that the CRAFT homebrewclub brings, complete with a Randall. They also offer discounts on supplies if you are participating.

The white tent on the left is where the beer is

And this is but 1 of at least 6 large events going on that day within an hour's drive that I know of.

In the south you can't get that many people together without a pig being roasted. +1 to you Northern Band of Brothers (side-note, I was born in MI....if I could take a pic of hand I could show you where in the mitten it was).

So, this is a free event?

Of course it's free. They all are free....

I wish they'd roast a few pigs....we have to make do with pulled pork instead.

Well, I like y'alls style. I don't think I know of any happening around me in the dirty Souff. Just have to brew in the ol' basement again!

What are you planning on brewing? EDIT: oops, I see it now. I thought you had posted it. Lion Stout is a manly beer!

No brewing but I will be helping out at my LHBS (Blackstone Valley Brewing Supplies in RI) with anyone that wants to start brewing or already has.

Still trying to get together with some people, either this Saturday, or a week from this Sunday. Will likely brew up some sort of IPA. (In case the Lions have a better record than the Browns, in which case I will be sending a few bottles to Hugh_Jazz.)

Possibilities are:

Bells 2-hearted Clone
Stevens Point Cascade Ale (not a true IPA, but very tasty)
Goose Island IPA
Whatever I have on hand and throw in the kettle...

You COULD still come down to the Detroit area saturday...I said I'd protect you.:D

Yeah, I know you said that, but you didn't say how. The only handguns I own are a 1861 New Army and a similar Navy (Blackpowder) and a Ruger Blackhawk .22 caliber with a 10" barrel. Not exactly what I'd call "streetwise weapons". I'd hate for you to be the only one with a gun (cue Lethal Weapon sax music)

I admit, your party looks inviting. But I've already started inquiring with someone near me about brewing that day. I'd like to invite some people from the community, but I don't know if there is time enough now to get the word out and set up a large enough area for more than a couple to show up.

Oatmeal stout on Friday night and a IPA or pale ale on Saturday. Still have not gotten the recipe I wanna use but it will come to me. Christmas time oatmeal stout just sounds delicious.

We're in the suburbs anyway, it's safe at cap n cork. The only reason you'd need either of those is fi the zombiepocalypse suddenly happens.
