4 lbs to add to my supply. Shipped monday, to HI by thursday. Love Hops Direct!

Received my order today, all bags weigh in at pretty much exactly one pound, I think the heaviest was 18 oz.

All in all though, very pleased with the order :)

Also, in addition to the additional pound of cascade they are sending me, it looks like they are also sending me a hop soap, which I am actually very excited to try.

to those who have opened their bags and broken down their pound(s) - by any chance do you know how much the empty bags weigh?

here are the weights of my order - all include the bag:

Legacy (leaf, large bag): 21.15 oz
Millennium (leaf): 19.95 oz
Columbus (pellets, small bag): 18.44 oz
Glacier (pellets): 19.00 oz
Amarillo (pellets): 18.67 oz

so if i knew how much the bags weighed, i could subtract that from the above numbers and get total weight of hops contained.

one more question: for those who ordered Columbus, what AA% is indicated on the bag?

the yard sale originally listed "Columbus Pellet Hops 2011 NEW CROP Alpha Acid - 12.9 %" (i copy and pasted from it when i ordered, way back when). but the bag that i received reads 13.6% AA. i'm wondering if this means that i didn't get the 2011 crop... not that it matters a whole lot.

My Columbus were 13.6%. I brewed with them last night. They smelled good. I'm guessing the website had the wrong info. Could be wrong, of course, but it's such a good company I don't think they'd intentionally mislead people.

yup - 12.9% could have been a previous batch/year, or a typo, who knows. with those prices and great service, there is no need for any trickery.

just curious :D

I've ordered 4-5 times from them & several times the tracking showed "Trout, OR" until the the day it showed up at my house. Strange, but never more than 5 days after tracking no, and I live in VA.

I weighed my new orders today--1# 3.3oz of Amarillo, 1# 2.8oz of Glacier. Gotta luv em! :)

On a related note, anyone use Yakimavalleyhops.com? Their prices are SICK... So much so that I hesitate to order without references. (no, I am not in any way affiliated... Just a hophead trying to save a buck or ten!)

Just purchased two lbs off of eBay yesterday and he already marked them as shipped today. I couldn't beat the prices, got a lb of Columbus and a lb of cascade for $21 and that included shipping. Will keep everyone posted on how fast they arrive and how they look.

Got mine today. Came out of the post office with a big box containing 11 lbs of hops on my shoulder and an ear-to-ear grin. My wife says "That's a lot of hops." My grin will probably disappear when I check the shipping cost.

Edit: Only $63 for fees (duty, taxes) and shipping. So my total cost for 11 lbs was about 94 cents per ounce. My LHBS charges $2 to $3 per ounce for pellets in little baggies that aren't even vaccuum-sealed, and doesn't have nearly the variety of hopsdirect.

Already got my two pounds from Yakima Valley hops on eBay and both were vacuum sealed and labeled. Couldn't believe how fast shipping was across the country and all for only $5 shipping. I think I know where I'm buying my bulk hops from now on. Now if he could just get a few more varieties. 👍👍

I just got my 4 lbs last sat. $41 shipped including a $16lb of Amarillo. I think one of the poundS was only $3.50. My lhbs sells some single ounces for over $3.

hops are on my way! And i must say the delay wasn't on hops direct at all, it was on me & paypal. Without realizing it, my account got frozen and I wasn't getting any pending payment notifications, thus I didn't realize hops direct was waiting on me.

even with the shipment, i'm getting hops at 1.05usd per ounce, that price cannot be beaten here in mexico

I got to weigh my 3lbs of hops today, 18.2, 18.6, 18.1 ounces. Nice...almost 7 oz's of extra bonus hops!

Very nice, I got bonus hops too. Ordered 7lbs and ended up with 141 oz, an extra 39 oz! The whole leaf seem to run 4-6oz high and the pelleted ones I ordered were ~2oz heavy. Overall with shipping I ended up paying 0.45 cents per oz of hops.

My guess is those are not hops. The triple-pack pizza is a dead giveaway. You are either the coolest college student alive or work for the cartel.

holy thread resurrection! but yeah, i figured i'd tell my tell if by any chance anyone not from the USA was wondering how did the shipping turn out.

hats off to hops direct, they really went above their job in order to secure my order. They waited for quite a few days 'til paypal cleared my banking account and shipment only took a day or so after payment.

most of the bags are 2.5oz over and i could not be happier about it, all of them seem to be filled with some nitro (won't open'em until my next brewing season in about a month) and they were covered with some paper to minimize whatever impacts the box could get.

i'd strongly recommend hops direct if you're importing from mexico (or any of the countries in south & central america for that matter). Mexico has a zero tax for hops so that's a plus.

on the other hand, the USPS took over 20 days to clear customs, once they did send the package across the board, it took three days for it to arrive at my door.

my guess is hops will not be spoiled at all for spending over 25 days without a freezer and in any case, i'll just use 3% more of each and forget about it.

to sum up: do buy from hopsdirect, excellent service and quality packing!

They are great!

has anyone else opened up a bag of HD hops and found the smell to be off-putting? usually a freshly-opened bag of hops smells amazing to me, but 3 of my 4 HopDirect bags opened so far have stunk. i haven't opened the fourth yet, so i might yet be batting 1.000 on this one.

HOWEVER if this smell is the price i have to pay for well-packed damage-protected hops, then so be it. i'd rather have funny-smelling bags that damaged hops!

here's what i wrote in another thread:

i opened my bag of legacy this weekend and used some in two batches. however, i couldn't get a good appreciation of the hops' aroma because (1) it was the first time i dealt with leaf hops - aroma is entirely different from pellets; and (2) the gas that they flush the bags with (nitrogen?) smells really strong. i've opened 3 bags from HopsDirect (including 1 pellet) and all three had that strong gas smell. ugh. t'was a very different experience from any other bags i've ever opened. typically i cut the bag open and stick my head inside to hyperventilate on the intoxicating smell. with the HD bags, i had to hold my nose. i'm assuming that the gas smell will be quickly boiled off and the hops true character will shine through... but what a downer.

I've been blown away by the quality of the hops from these guys. Really happy with my Hops Direct order!

They're the greatest! Looking forward to September when they have more available...

I looked into buying there. the prices are great but I only need 2 lbs and the shipping is the same for 2 as it is for 5lbs. It was more than twice what shipping from another source. I don't want to pay for shipping 5lbs when I only am getting 2lbs. If I could afford 5lbs right now it would be a different story.
