I made some scratch root beer with 1/4 oz. dried Sassafras root bark, 2 cups of white sugar and 1/4 oz yeast. This made 1 gallon.

It tasted great but I think it was making my mouth and tongue a little numb. That made me a little nervous so I only drank a little bit. Is this normal or typical??? I know that Sassafras can be mildly carcinogenic. Does it have numbing properties too.

Thanks, Doug

Don't know about Sassafrass, but Cloves are a natural analgesic and cause a mild numbness. Could be a natural thing, or you have problems. ;)
