Do I just use plumbers tape? I have a leak in one of the pipe fittings for my brew rig.

Plumbers tape could take care of it. Ort try pipe dope. It's a paste type that works very well.

Lighter. Boom! Leak fixed.
Pipe dope FTW. Teflon tape isn't realy meant to seal, nor is pipe dope, it's just meant to sort of lube (anti gall) the threads for a tighter fit.

I am having trouble getting the nipple out of the elbow where the leak is. Is there something I can just seal it with from the outside?

Nothing I would trust with gas connections.

Get the nipple out and start over as you will kill the threads. Find some leak-loc or similar. I have always seen it in blue.
