Today I did an AG stout with 9.25# grain, mashed @ 157 with 3 gallons.

I batch sparge with a converted 5 gallon cooler, I did 2 sparges, each 2.75gallons. The first sparge was 168 and the second sparge ended up being being 166.

I ended up collecting 7 gallons and getting about 5.5 gallons into the carboy (I only have 5 gallons marked off, so I'm just guessing @ 5.5).

Anyway, I ended up with OG of 1.051, which according to BeerSmith is between 88 and 89% efficiency.

Typically I only get around 83% using the same techniques.

The only new thing I did was using 5.2 stabilizer in the mash.

Does anything seem incredibly off? Too much sparge water, perhaps? I suppose I will find out in a few weeks if I screwed something up or not.

That's what the stabilizer is supposed to do.......increase your efficiency and keep the tannins out of your wort. I would think that the stabilizer did it's thing. I have soe ordered to try and can't wait to see it I can get in the 80's. I get in the high 60's right now....
