Maris otter is my go to base malt for pretty much any pale ale or IPA, and I've always loved the combo of British C45 and C77 split 50/50 for pale ales, ambers, and IPAs. I split the Maris otter with some Vienna to add more complexity (I think the nuttiness from MO will complement the bready Vienna malt nicely), and finished with c-pils to up the body so it won't finish thin. I've had problems over attenuating lately so I'm doing a pretty high mash temp (156) for 45 mins. Also decided on Denny's yeast to add a little more character to the beer (but not as much as an english strain) and attenuate a little less than 001/1056.

Any thoughts? I feel pretty good about this recipe but am wondering if maybe I should simplify the grain bill or scale back the hops somewhat.

I was looking to make something very similar to this. Did you use whole hops or pellets? How did it turn out? Anything you would have changed?
