Honey locator has a couple listings:

You could also check yellow pages & google; not trying to be a dick, I'm just sayin.

Yeah I understand. I checked there already, that is why I was asking here. There has to be more than 4 places in the whole state. I wanted to see if anyone on here is from the neighborhood and knew of some hidden gems. Thanks though.

Are you looking to make a lot of mead from it? From my experience, anyone in the city that is keeping bees is looking to sell by the jar at a primium price. There is no bulk discount. I'm currently buying my honey in Wisconsin. I'm considering keeping bees myself in the city and could honestly see myself selling my honey and using the profits to continue to buy in bulk in Wisconsin.

The ISBA would most likely be able to give you a list of lcl beekeepers, some of them might be willing to sell to you directly.
There are lots of apiaries online, you can get just about any varietal you can think of, but even with a great price per pound, the cost of shipping makes it a bit cost prohibitive for most of them.

Thanks so much for the replies guys. I will check them all out. Yeah I found Tupelo honey shipped for $59 a gallon. I suppose that is a good price but then again I don't know shhh about honey. lol

They have mesquite honey in 3 pound cans for only 8 or 9 bucks-about the best deal around (about half the cost of that tupelo), considering how pricey honey is getting- have used it for a decade in many meads and ciders- made a mead from their triple berry blend (frozen whole berries in bags) it was very good

best regards

EDIT: when i lived in Tucson, that mesquite honey made an amazing prickly pear mead (prickly pears harvested wild)

Chicago Foods aka Joong Boo Market (Kimball just north of Belmont) has gallons of honey for $20. I have 5g of mead made with it aging in my home office right now...

Hate to be a downer, but i read in another post the assertion that cheap asian honey is made by bees that have access to sugar ponds- low quality and no flavor profile (nowhere close to locally sourced or even domestic honey from bees that actually have access to flowers) - it will work OK for applications that just need a bump in OG, but wouldn't use it in a mead that showcases the honey- you get what you pay for

My first batch of mead is fermenting right now. I used Sunny Hill Honey (from the website: "Sunny Hill Honey is harvested within 50 miles of the Marengo plant producing truly local honey"). They only have regular clover honey.

It's available all over Chicagoland and there's a list of retailers on their website
