Brown on inside of used shank

I recently bought a used kegerator and the inside of the shank that attaches to the faucet is stained brown. It doesn't appear to be rust and I gave it a good soak with B-Brite before scrubbing it with a tooth brush. Nothing came off.

I am wondering if this is just normal staining to be ignored, or whether I should attempt to soak it in something like Oxyclean?

Assuming it isn't exposed brass, it's likely beer stone that will resist most cleaners. Try something meant for beer stone removal - like BLC/LLC...

Definitely a chrome finish, over brass, I think. Would brass take on this brown color over time?

The surface is quite smooth - not grainy.
