Hi All,

Just wondering what is the largest amount of grain you can get away with using a Rubbermaid 10 gallon cooler-MLT? I'm planning a BIG beer soon and it calls for almost 21lbs of grain with 5 gallons of strike water.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Yep, the "can I mash it?" calculator is an invaluable tool. For a rule of thumb, I find that 12 pounds is a pretty reasonable limit for a 5-gallon cooler, and even that is sort of pushing it, especially if you hope to do a mash-out infusion without having to drain a bit of the first runnings to fit it in there. So, offhand, 24 lb is probably a reasonable rule of thumb for 10-gal coolers... with 21lb you should be fine.
