Bottle conditioning question

I'm only on about batch 6 now but I've read countless threads here and a few books but I still have a nagging question and I'm sure I overlooked it at some point but some guidance would be appreciated.

I refrigerated my first batch after 3 weeks, some flavors were a bit harsh thanks to n00b mistakes... Will flavors mellow during conditioning even in the fridge or does the bulk of the flavor conditioning happen at room temp?

i have an iipa that was hot on the alcohol flavoring(way too high ferm temps) so i left them sit room temp for a few weeks now and i'll be having one today to see what the results are...im pretty noob aswell but im on this site everyday and from what i've read if its goin to mellow its most likely happening in your closet..
