If anyone here has tasted a beer from South African Breweries you will most likely agree that they're terrible. Trouble is SABMiller has monopolised the market and pretty much killed all competition here. Before I get too carried away with injustice of it ;), SABMiller make a beer called Castle Lager which they claim is in the bottle and ready to drink in 18 days (from start to finish).
Anyone care to guess how this is possible ?
Is Castle Lager really an ale in disguise ?
Chemically enhanced fermentation ?

Nope... They are probably getting it in the bottle in 18days... Big breweries have the technology to enhance fermentation and to basically rush a beer... My guess is that this also could be a tricky advertising gimmick...

They might only be refering to the lagering period... not the fermentation period...

Either way... Is gotta taste pretty bad...

You're right (it does taste terrible)- this from castlelager.co.za :
From barley to bottling, it takes a patient seven weeks in total to create a Castle Lager. The Castle brew is prepared for 18 days: 12 days of brewing and fermenting, and 6 days of maturation. The brew must go through a number of rigorous quality approval phases throughout the process before it may leave the brewery as Castle Lager.

By the way - if you ever see a Castle label you will notice that its won a gold medal (!) - from an agricultural show in 1907 (no, really) :D
