Crushing Oats?

No, Flaked Oats can go right into the mash. Regular oats have to be boiled/cooked to gelatinize them, then they go into the mash. I'm not sure of the details of how to cook them, because I use flaked oats.
 
Right or wrong, i have milled mine in both oatmeal stouts i've done and both turned out good. i don't think they really crush much.

GI - flaked grains don't need to be crushed, but crushing them isn't wrong either.
