I frequently handle 24-26 lbs of grain in my 10g cooler (in fact, I've got 24.81 lbs in it right now about 30 minutes through mashing). 26 really starts to push it.

So 4/5 of that leaves you about 20 lbs to work with.

This is for 15 gallon batches, though, so if you're doing 5 gallons, you should have plenty of space.

That is the size I used for years for 5 gallon batches. I went up to a 52 Quart for 10 gallon batches.

32 quart is plenty big.

OK great....I realize I would need something bigger for 5+ gallon batches but I'll wait until I get this down and collect more equipment to do bigger batches than 5 gallons. Thanks guys!

5 gallons is tight for a mash tun for 5 gallon batches. 8 should be fine. You could fit over 20 lbs of grain in and 8 gallon cooler at 1.25 qt/lb.
