I recently bought a new kettle and will be using this for MLT instead of my converted cooler. Long story short I made a FB the cheap way with a pizza pan as described before. The pan is uncoated Aluminium and pretty heavy weight. I was able to cut it to size pretty easily. Question is- the holes in the pan are small but are they small enough. Typical FB are 3/32 holes. This pan is only one hole size up. Any problems with grain getting through or once the grain bed is set should it work ok? For 10 bucks total can't hurt to try!

I did almost the same thing for a false bottom and thought the same about the holes. I went down to michael's craft store and bought a roll of "wire form Contour Mesh" and covered the false bottom with that. It works great and my efficiency is 80% every time.
