Of my first 4 batches 2 of them don't have much carbonation.

Here are my observations:

The kits (brewer's best) are fine
The 2 I did from recipes have little carbonation and no head retention.
The recipes I made all used DME - The kits used liquid extract.
All other processes/ingredients were consistent with all batches

Any thoughts?

How did you mix in your priming sugar? Sometimes of you pour it into the bottom of your bottling bucket, it doesn't mix well, and only part of the batch gets enough to carb. If none of the beers carbed, did you remember the sugar? How long did you wait before opening the bottles? Some can take 4 weeks to carb fully.

I don't think it's the recipe ingredients.

I did mix the sugar into the bottom of the bucket and I did use corn sugar in all batches. I waited at least 3 weeks before I opened them. The carbonation is a little inconsistent, but even the best carbed bottles from the recipes aren't as good as the kits.
