I just picked up a couple of Coopers kits from my local supplier, along with a Fermentis dry yeast packet. On the packet it says that 59F is the highest ideal temp, but my basement is usually in the mid to high 60s. Will it be ok to use it or should I just use the Coopers yeast that came with the kit? What if I was to mix the yeasts?

Sounds like you should use the Coopers, if it is in date. Any yeast that tops out at 59F (sounds like a real lager yeast) will give odd results at 65-68F.

Most of the time mixing yeasts is ok. Once in a while you'll get two yeasts that will clamp onto each other and drop out like rocks.

Or you could try the tub & towel cooling method.

Unfortunately, I didn't check the expiry date on the Coopers kits until I got home. They expired in December. Do you think the yeast will still be ok?
