I believe that the Wyeast 1010 American wheat yeast strain came from a Koelsch brewery in Germany. Right?

So I should be able to make a Koelsch with it. Has anyone done this? Were they happy with the results? Since it is a Koelsch yeast I should be able to ferment down to about 50 degrees F right?

Any advice would be welcomed, as well as good Koelsch recipes.

Thanks!!

According to Mr. Malty it is from the Päffgen brewery in Köln.

I think it will do fine for a Kolsch.

I have a mini mash recipe for a Kolsch that came out pretty good.
<---It is in the my recipe list.

Old thread, but I've got a Kolsch in primary right now using 1010. Hopefully I'll have something to report in a month or so, I can however say that this yeast is FAST! I had a 5 gallon batch with a 1.7 L starter and main fermentation was done within 48 hours ( 1.054 OG )

7lb German pils
2 Lb wheat
0.5 lb corn sugar
perle 1oz/60 min
tettnang 1oz 15min
tettnang 1oz 5 min
tettnang 1oz after flameout/cooling started

I'll start three weeks of cold conditioning next weekend, right after I start my double batch of Citra Pale Ale...
