I'm about to brew this and it's my first 10 gallon batch also my first stout.

I'm gonna split it into 2 carboys and ferment one with the yeast called for in the recipe, (wyeast 1335) and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the other carboy. Maybe I could use the same yeast on both and add lactose to one of them? Would that be any good? How big of a starter would I have to make? Has anyone tried any other yeast with this recipe?
