...not mine, but my best friend's. July 24-27. We're stopping in Niagara that Thursday night to gamble, then heading to TO for Friday, Saturday, and coming home Sunday. Should be about a 7 hour jaunt total.

Anyone have any advice about the beer up there? I searched here and found the names of the BMC equivalents... Is Unibroue big in Toronto? Because I love their stuff. Great beer bars in TO?

Bachelor entertainment is covered - The Brass Rail. Any nice things to say about that place?

We're all hockey fans, so we'll be hitting the HoF.

Brewers - any gatherings/drinkings happening?

I was just there and found a place on Front Street called C'est What. They have 35 taps, all Canadian stuff but some of it was good. You'll also find Hoegaarden wit in just about any bar with more than 3 taps.

Beer Bistro, Mill Street, Granite Brewery are good bets too. Mill Street and Granite are both brew pubs. beerbistro.com lists their beer menu if you want to check it out before going.

Next time, come to montreal... a lot of great Micros.

Dieu du ciel
is pretty good.
l'Amère à boire is good too.
The Vices & Versa has like 29 taps where they alternate between different micro brews from Québec (the province)...
The Saint-Bock is a good stop too.

Montréal is the place so you'll never say that canadian beers are bad! :mug:

In Fact... are we even considered canadians?:D That's another thing...:off:

Montreal and/or Toronto is looking like the destination for the next Great Beer Wanderers tour...

If I had a choice, I'd have chosen Montreal...

Bobby - I have been reading a lot of great reviews about C'est What.... Will be sure to check that out.

Jaysus - I'll definitely give the town a good scouting out.

OK, so I'm back from Toronto! Some of the highlights:

Spirits Bar and Grill: This was a place the bachelor had been before... Took us a while to find it, but a nice place for food. Not a big beer selection, but we were throwing back Amsterdam Blondes like they were going out of style.

C'est What: Fantastic brewpub!!! Yes, their stuff is made off-site at Durham, but wonderful beers! We opened the place on Saturday and had just a terrific barmaid by the name of Maggie. She was absolutely tremendous, knowledgable about all the beers, and so friendly. Some of the great beers I had:

  • Coffee Porter
    C’est What?, Toronto, Ontario 5.8% - nitro-dispensed
  • Hazelnut Chocolate Ale
    C’est What?, Toronto, Ontario 5.3% - nitro-dispensed
  • Granite Best Bitter
Granite Brewery, Toronto, Ontario 4.5% - cask
  • Devil’s Pale Ale
Great Lakes Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 6.0%
  • Hop Addict
    Durham Brewing, Pickering, Ontario 5.4%
  • Black Oak Pale Ale
Black Oak Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 5.0%
  • Ephemere Apple (Pomme)
    Unibroue, Chambly, Quebec 5.5%
  • Tankhouse Ale
Mill Street Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 5.2%

All of these beers were excellent...

McVeigh's New Windsor Tavern: Fantastic time... Had Irish music live, great barmaid named Tracy, and the owner was there hanging with us too. It's also the pub where Boondock Saints was filmed: No, we didn't yell "Hey f*ck*ss get me a beer" when we walked in, but a ton of people do...

Laide: Wow. This place.... Wow. We were here for about 15 minutes - not our scene... From the detailed plaster nude body casts to the 1"x1" porn scenes on the bar top, to the 8'x12' video screen on the wall playing 1930's pornos.... Not our scene. Hey, we're not prudes, but 7 foot high chubby grandma bush :fro: on the wall is a little unappetizing....

The Brass Rail: This place however, was very appetizing (link probably NSFW). The bachelor was dead on with his recollections of this place. Fantastic women at affordable prices. He was treated like a KING!!!

The only bad beers we had were Keith's IPA which was an IPA with no hops whatsoever, King Pilsner - mehhh.... and Rickard's Amber - yawn.

Final analysis - I hate the Leafs with a passion, but I LOVE TORONTO. Beautiful, clean, modern yet classic, nice, friendly, mellow people. I would love to go back there... It was just a fantastic experience all around!!!
