Anyone ever used simcoe hops before. I've seen them and am a little curious. I'm thinking about making an American Brown and using them for the bittering hops. Use all throughout? What's the flavor/aroma like?

I've read they're somewhat "piney". I've got a pound of them in the freezer....I think I'm going to save them for a Pliny the Elder clone.

My HBS (Home Brew Mart) has 4 oz tasters of various HB's on tap. The two different Simcoe brews both tasted very much like grapefruit peels to me. One was a rye, one was supposed to be ginger ale. In both, the grapefuit aftertaste overpowered the other flavors- to my palate. It was educational to me to see how much a hop can flavor the brew.
