Hey all, I have 5 gallons of hefe that has been in primary for two weeks now. I would like to split it into two 2.5 gallon batches and add raspberry extract to half.
My plan is to transfer half of the beer out of the primary vessel into a second 5 gallon carboy with the extract. I will leave the non flavored half on in the primary and bottle both in a week.
My concern is that I will lose my co2 blanket and both beers will be sitting with the top half of the carboy full of oxygen. The extract half will produce a minimal amount of co2 but not much. Maybe I should add a cup or two of corn sugar to each in order to produce co2?
TIA for any replies

Realistically, enough CO2 will come out of solution to provide a blanket, but if you want 2 ounces of sugar will be plenty.

Thanks David, I think I will skip the corn sugar addition then
