I would back off the C-120 to .25 lbs or so, and lose the 5 min hop addition.

Any particular reason for the rice hulls? What kind of false bottom are you using? Are stuck sparges common for you? It certainly won't hurt to have them in there, but you might want to save that for a wheat beer down the road. Just a thought.

Otherwise looks good. I like my oatmeal beers with a bit more oats also, and 2 lbs oughta do it.

I was just worried about the 2# of oats making a mush out of things..
I was totally guessing on the C120, could you explain the effect of too much or using only .25 # will have? Rogue Shakespeare has about .5 # so maybe 1.25# is way too much?

Also I like the smell/taste of the Cascade/Centennial in other beers, think it will break it or mess it up? I pulled the Warrior from Alpha King recipe, it also has the Cascade/Centennial mix..

I'd cut the C120 as Tiber mentioned, as it's very "raisiny" and strong. If you want more crystal malt you could use a lighter color and have a good balance of sweetness along with the roasty flavors.

I'd cut the rice hulls to a big handful or two- maybe .25 pound or less. A pound of rice hulls is about 1/3 of my MLT!

i like to add a 1/2 lbs of golden naked oats to my oatmeal stouts too, gives it an excellent mouth feel and nutty-ness

The reasons for cutting down on the C-120 and removing the 5 min hops are similar. A stout is a beer that focuses more on roast character than the toffee/raisin that comes with too much dark crystal, or hop flavor that comes with late hop additions. Half a pound of C-120 would probably be OK, but I prefer my stouts with less dark crystal character.

As for the rice hulls, I don't think it's as necessary as with wheat. Flaked oats don't promote stuck sparges as much as wheat does in my experience. Then again, I've never had a stuck sparge with wheat either - it will depend on your false bottom among other things. If you want to be safe, toss a handful in, and save the rest for wheat beers.

Good luck! :mug:

Rice hulls are gone..
ok I don't want a raisin beer, I'll cut the C120 to 1/2 #
I'm not a fan of the coffee, chocolate taste, I like Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout and Shakespeare souts..so I don't want to over power that..
