So, I set a buddy of mine up with a kegerator to dispense commercial beer. Here's his system:
  • Full fridge (top freezer left untouched)
  • CO2 tank inside
  • Keg Cowboy primary regulator set to 10 PSI
  • sanke US coupler
  • 9 ft of 3/16" beer line
  • Perlick faucet
  • 4" shank

When he pulls a beer, it comes out super fast. There's no foam in the line, but his glass/growler is ALL foam. He usually buys 1/6 barrels (which seem to produce much less foam), but he currently has a 1/2 barrel and it's so foamy it's undrinkable.

Any ideas or suggestions?

+1 on regulator being off.
other possibilities - verify beer line diameter. if it's actually 1/4 in you are several feet short of balanced.

how was the keg handled before getting in the system? Did it warm up? Rough handling or warm temps can cause foaming issues.

if the keg is new a 15 gallon keg it could take 2 days to fully cool down, it will be foamy until it cools.
Sometimes they are overpressurized , pull the pressure release on the sanke coupler and vent
verify you don't have 1/4" line
