Does anyone know how one would go about isolating individual strains of yeast from a wild culture?

Yep. Fairly straightforward technique as Mensa says. You can even do it as a homebrewer with minimal equipment and a bit of DIY effort.
Although it is worth noting that mere homebrewers will have a tough time identifying many of the different strains of yeast once they do have isolated cultures growing on slants/plates.

a good microscope with at least 400X.
