Well substitute the grains for horse dung and then you would have a true Ian Paisley brew :) Full of sh.....................................

:D

hehehehhe... my brother had a great idea for a brewing company "protestant brewing company" ... now he's a christian/protestant, but he loves making fun of these extremist as much as anyone else. He thought of this and some others like the "Lutheran Porter" "Might, Malty, Methodist's Barley Wine" etc.

Substitute some of those hop additions with 'pilgrim' hops ;)

You could always do a gerry adams version using 'green bullet' hops :D

Seriously though thats a huge beer, im not a hophead so i wouldn't like to offer an oponion on it.

That looks pretty tasty. Those hop additions are going to keep you very busy ala DFH. You may want to count on upping your volume a little if you can, you're going to get a ton of absorption with all those hops.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hmm, that's why I did 5.5 (hoping for 5 gals). Think I should up it more? Maybe 6 gal target?

I don't know what kind of losses you normally get when you rack, but I usually plan on at least half a gallon per 5 gallon batch. With adding dryhops in I end up with even more loss. I do 11 to 11.5 gallon batches so I'll have 2 full kegs plus maybe a couple of bottles. I did a DFH clone that had a ton of hops dry hopping (whole) and ended up with almost 12 gallons in the fermenter. By the time I racked it to the kegs, I was right at 10 gallons. YMMV

Well, I guess this is more of an American Barleywine than an IPA. I was just looking at the BJCP style guides and IIPA's have 1.020 or less, FG. Mines probably gonna end at 1.024 because of my yeast. The SRM is .5 short for American Barleywine, so I'm kind of caught in the middle... the IBUs aren't even close to the max for an American Barleywine though. I might have to change the name until I can make this recipe with some higher attenuating yeast, i.e. 001 or nottingham. Just don't have any on hand.

Final recipe, brewed yesterday, in a primary! My first brew over, like, 40 or so IBU's. The sample about knocked my head off. I LOVE IT! Came out at 1.080... horrible efficiency, but it was a slacker crush.
