Hello.

I have a really nice 15 gallon kettle I got from Homebrewstuff that came with a thermometer pre-drilled and in a 7/8" hole. The hole is a little bit high for smaller batches.

They have a 1/2" kettle plug for sale on their website (which obviously isn't big enough), but not a 7/8" one. I have been looking all around for something like that but I cannot find the right thing.

Here's a link to a picture of the 1/2" plug. My search for something similar in 7/8" size has not been successful. http://www.homebrewstuff.com/kettle-plug.html

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would think the plug you linked to would work fine. (It's 1/2" ID, but if you want to put a 1/2" NPT fitting into the kettle, you drill a 13/16" or 7/8" hole.)

The plug in your link will fit. 1/2" NPT does not actually measure 1/2" on the outside diameter, 7/8" is spot on for 1/2" NPT fittings. As wierd as it may sound...

I have attached a screenshot of the hole in my kettle. You're right, it does seem pretty weird that a 1/2" plug would fit a 7/8" hole, but if you are sure, I'll take your word for it and give it a try.

Pipe is measured on the ID, so 1/2" pipe has an OD of about 0.84".

Yes, all my holes in my kettles have 1/2" fittings and they're all 7/8" holes. When drilling you're only concerned about outside diameter.
