Anyone use milk jugs for starters or for fermenting 1 gal batches? It must be food grade plastic. I just haven't specifically heard about anyone using them. Wondering if there'd be something wrong with it I'm not thinking of.

No problems as long as they're well cleaned / sanitized. 2L soda bottles may be better, with a screw cap.

True, and I've used those for freezing starter wort, but you can't do a 2L starter in there with no headspace.

Why not use a 1 gallon water jug, no milk smell.

Yeah could do that, but I have 2 little kids so I burn through those milk jugs like a fool. But I do despise the smell of milk....

I have 4 one gallon glass milk jugs that I use as fermenters on small batches, have for years,,they are hard to come by but worth the search.
