Is there enough room in a 1L Erlenmeyer flask to make a 1L starter?

Or should I purchase a 2L flask?

I am curious if you are using a stirplate and still getting krausen in your starter?

I never get more than a few bubbles in starters on the stirplate.

Actually, I haven't had big krausen for a while now.
I use a stirplate and there's usually a moderate amount.
But there were several that pushed out the foam stopper.
Maybe I had too much DME in those.

I use a glass one gallon clear jug from the LHBS($6). I can make any size starter, it balances fine on the stirplate. Even with fermcap I get large krausen. I think due to high ambient temps(80*). It hasn't mattered what the SG of the wort was. Having to clean all the wasted yeast off the counters after overflows with a flask is why I switched to a straight sided vessel.
