I have had 5 Gallons of Peach Cider in the secondary for 1 1/2 - 2 months now and would like to bottle it up.

This is my first attempt at Cider.

I would like to have both a carbonated and sweet cider so I am going to prime the cider with 1 cup of sugar.

To get the sweetness I was thinking of using Lactose.

How much Lactose do I use and where can I purchase it?

Also I guess that I should sweeten to taste with the Lactose first before I prime with sugar?

Thanks, Don

Secondary: 5 Gal Peach Cider
Secondary: 5 Gal Peach Wine
Secondary: 5 Gal. Elderberry Wine

Drinking: Homebrewed Bass Clone Pale Ale

Next Batch: Bass Clone or Porter.

Most homebrew shops should carry lactose. I have used between 100-200 grams per 5 gallon with good results.

Another place to find lactose is at your local whole foods (or other health foods store). I would also recommend dissolving it in a little boiling water (or warmed AJ) to help incorporate. It can sometimes clump up a little (like malt). Good luck.

I just put half a cup of priming sugar in mine, here comes unsweetened apple cider .
