I just aquired my third 1/2 barrel sanke keg and need some ideas what to do with it other than the easy direct fired MLT and/or give it to me. I'm pretty happy with my cooler MLT so that's why I dismissed the heated MLT so quickly but it would make sense with the brewstand I'm trying to find time to build. (New son).

If your cooler is large enough for 10gal batches, I'd have to go with a fermenter. I converted one and its the best.

First I use the 1/2 keg to go to town and get water for the beer. Then its the HLT, then after sparge it becomes the fermenter.

I can do a step mashed with a 1/4 keg as a mash ton. I just put it on my brew stand. Be sure to STIR the whole time the flame is on. I can cram 21 or 22 lbs of grain in it. Just enough for a 10 gallon batch.
