I just finished bottling my first brew. All the stuff I have read say that it should be bottle conditioned in a "cool, dark place". What is the ideal temperature to bottle condition? Is 60 degrees ok, or should it be a little warmer?

stay below 80 ... 60s are best. the cooler the temp the longer it will take to carbonate and better the taste will be, the higher the temp the faster it will carbonate but you risk sacrificing taste. aim for mid to upper 60s and you should be good in about 2 - 3 weeks.

after carbonation is done stick the bottles in the fridge for at least a week before drinking to take the yeast out of suspension. don't be alarmed by the layer of gunk at the bottom of the bottle or the appearance of karisen these are both perfectly normal for bottle conditioned beer.
