Just read on a Bilckmann BrewMometer complaint thread that heat from a gas burner can affect the thermometer.

Am about to buy a banjo burner. They are mostly the 5.5" or 10" size. Anyone have problems with the 10" burner affecting their BK thermometer? How about the 5.5" burner.

Apparently Blickmann recommends using a heat shield with their BrewMometers if you are heating with gas. Got the impression Blickmann does not sell these.

If you use a heat shield with a banjo burner, what did you come up with?

Blichmann supplies a piece of stainless steel with their kettles to shield the ball valve, sight glass and Brewmometer from burner blow-by. If you don't use it with a BG-14 type of burner the vinyl cover on the ball valve would be the first casualty, never mind the thermometer.

I use the shields with 10g Boilermakers on top of a pair of their BG-14 "floor burners". Zero issues with any of the kettle fittings, whether ball valve/handle, sight glass, or thermometer...

Cheers!
